LINDA Palmer has plenty to get her teeth stuck into -- and she's loving every minute of it!

For the 53 year-old adopted Blackburnian, affectionately nicknamed 'the rottweiler', is the tenacious organiser-in-chief of the Thwaites Darts and Dominoes League -- but her bark's certainly worse than her bite.

"I take the nickname as it's intended -- a compliment," says Linda, originally from Plymouth. "It was given to me in recognition of my 'no nonsense' attitude in running the league, and the fact that I'm 100per cent committed to the cause.

"I like the name so much I've even got it on my t-shirts!"

Despite now revelling in her organisational role, which she undertakes from her base at The Havelock, housewife Linda was initially a touch wary of the day-to-day tasks involved.

"To be honest I was roped into it a bit at first but I absolutely love it now and wouldn't swap it for the world," she adds. "I have to say though I'm not a one woman team -- Janet and Mick Booth at the Havelock have both been brilliant in letting me camp there with my paperwork.

"Also, fellow committee members Dave Carter, Karen Goodwin and Lawrence Theaker are just as involved as I am, but I always seem to be at the sharp end as people know they can get hold of me 24 hours a day, seven days a week."

High on the list of duties for Linda is the arrangement of and attendance at various charity events, a number of which are on the horizon.

"On March 9 I've been asked to judge at a darts competition at the Anchor in Darwen, with all funds going to Derian House. I'm also in the process of a organising a massive fund-raising scheme involving many different venues across Blackburn, Darwen and Accrington -- watch this space!"

Away from the results sheets and paperwork, Linda somehow finds time to fire in the doubles and knock spots off the opposition.

"Well, I wouldn't say I was that good -- don't get me wrong I love the games but the real enjoyment is in taking part. At the moment I play for The Havelock in the mixed, ladies and all fours -- I'm not playing too bad at the moment, particularly in the dominoes." Linda's main satisfaction however, remains her work behind the scenes which she receives a great deal of credit for. People keep telling me what a brilliant job I'm doing and that the league has never been run so well. This appreciation means the world to me and long may it continue.

"I'm happy to keep on going until people say otherwise."

You may be in for quite a wait Linda.
