KEITH Scott is confident that he and fellow Leigh RMI new boy Neil Campbell can score the goals that will help the club beat the drop writes David Magilton

The veteran striker moved to Hilton Park from Scarborough last week along with Campbell and believes that safety is a realistic target for new manager Mark Patterson.

"I hope to do well for the manager and I see no reason why we shouldn't stay up," claimed Scott.

"I know Neil Campbell, we've played together and hopefully we can get among the goals."

Leigh face a crucial test on Saturday when they take on fellow relegation battlers Nuneaton Borough, whose manager Steve Burr is hoping to freshen up with four new players.

Burr's side have slumped into serious relegation trouble after a run that has seen them draw three and lose seven of their last ten games and the Nuneaton boss is desperate to arrest the slide.

"Altogether, we could have four new faces in for the weekend and that would give the side a new look," he said. "Currently the targets are talking to their clubs about pay-offs and settlements but, hopefully, it will be sorted out soon and it will all come off for us."

RMI have had to postpone a second Saturday Conference game because of the FA Trophy. Their match against Yeovil should have been played on March 15 but because of Town's involvement in the quarter-final Leigh will now travel to Somerset on Tuesday March 11.

The disruption caused by the Trophy is something which is giving the RMI boss a headache.

"Since the New Year we have had only two home games on a Saturday which is ridiculous," said Patterson. "It is soul destroying, it gives us no continuity and it is time the league looked at the situation."

Leigh will play Kendal Town in the final of the Marsden Lancashire Trophy after the Cumbrians surprisingly beat Unibond Premier Division runaway leaders Accrington Stanley 2-1.
