PARENTS in Burnley, Pendle and Rossendale are being warned of the dangers of prolonged bottle feeding.
Health professionals are concerned that prolonged use of feeder bottles could cause a number of problems including; dental decay, food refusal, poor eating habits, iron deficiency anaemia and delayed speech development.
According to Burnley, Pendle and Rossendale Primary Care Trust a recent government report, "Weaning and the Weaning Diet", recommends that infants from the age of six months should be discouraged from bottle feeding.
And by the time toddlers are one year old they should not be bottle feeding. A "Bottle Swap" day has been organised.
A spokesman for the Burnley, Pendle and Rossendale Primary Care Trust said: "Parents will be able to swap their child's bottle for a cup and pick up many free gifts.
The bottle swap day will take place on Wednesday, March 5, from 10am to 3pm at the Personal Dental Service and Sure Start office at Trafalgar House in market Street, Nelson.
