THE anti-war protest in London has got folk rock legends the Levellers fired up ready for their latest tour.

The political heavyweights, who are a familiar sight at festivals and demonstrations alike, never preach on stage, they let their music do the talking instead.

The Citizen's Ben Hewes caught up with Levellers bassist Jeremy Cunningham on the first leg of their tour.

He said: "We do a lot of political stuff. We were all on the march in London. That was amazing, a really good atmosphere. I've been on a lot of those kind of things, but not for a while, so it was good to see that many people turn out especially as people now are generally apathetic about things."

Jeremy, 37, is also the creative force behind the band's artwork, for their albums and internet sites.

"But I really like playing live because it's like therapy. It's a great feeling to play in front of people, to see them jumping up and down to your music."

The Levellers play the Preston Guild Hall on Saturday, March 15, starting at 7.30pm. Tickets are £15 to £16 on 01772 258858.
