POLICE are searching for two women who posed as charity workers and stole more than £1,200 in cash and jewellery from a pensioner.

They entered the man's house in the Standen Road area of Clitheroe after saying they were collecting old clothes for charity.

One of the women accompanied the man upstairs to collect clothes, while the other searched the property and took the cash and jewellery.

Police are warning the elderly not to let people into their houses.

The first woman is described as about 45, with straight, dark, shoulder-length hair; about 5ft 6in and of medium build. She was wearing dark clothes and trousers; dark, heavy-rimmed spectacles and had a slightly tanned complexion.

The second woman is thought to be in her mid-20s, with straight, blonde, shoulder-length hair, and about 5ft 4in. She was wearing a light brown flowered blouse and dark skirt. Both women spoke with Lancashire accents.
