PEACE campaigner John Wood is appealing to protesters to join a "not in my name" demonstration against war in Iraq.
The Lowton joiner hopes thousands of anti-war campaigners will take part in this Saturday's silent vigil which begins at 1pm on Leigh Civic Square.
He has also launched a petition which will be forwarded to Leigh MP Andy Burnham.
John, 49, who has organised the event with four friends, has written to churches asking parishioners to join the vigil against this "potential human catastrophe" and has posted leaflets in schools and colleges.
John, of The Grove, said: "Everyone who feels they want to make a stand against Britain and America's involvement in declaring war on Iraq is invited to join us."
John, who joined the Lowton Churches crusade, and who in the 1990s made eight trips to help Romanian orphans, is willing to help set up vigils in other towns.
