A MAGNIFICENT seven schools have been praised for their work on health improvement.
Staff and pupils from Tyldesley Fred Longworth High, plus six junior schools, were among nine from the area who were today (Thursday) recognised for work in their specialist fields.
They all gained accreditation under the Wigan Healthy Schools programme in which they work with the LEA and Primary Care Trust Healthy School team.
They then produce action plans before having their progress evaluated by independent assessors.
Freddies has specialised in drugs, alcohol and tobacco. St Michael's at Howe Bridge, Parklee Community in Atherton, and Lowton St Catherine's Primary, Lowton have dealt with sex and relationships.
Hindley St Peter's CE Infants, Hindley (physical activity), Shakerley CE Tyldesley (emotional well-being) and Golborne J and I (school environment) were rewarded for their efforts.
All received awards from the council's cabinet member for lifelong learning, Cllr Brian Wilson.
