FIVE generations helped Jim and Eileen Ainscough celebrate their golden day.

The retired Hag Fold shopkeepers marked 50 years together with parties attended by Eileen's 88 years-old mother mother Marian Ellison, their three children, John, Ian and Michelle, grandchilden and great grandchildren.

Former miner Jim, and Eileen, both aged 67, of Derby Street, Atherton, met at infants' school when they were four and were always pals before starting courting at 16.

Both were baptised, confirmed and married at St John's Church, Pemberton.

The couple started their own mobile shop business and 32 years ago bought a greengrocery and general store on Hag Fold estate.

Eileen said: "We retired two years ago and the shop is now a cafe, but we are proud to say we served three generations on the estate."

While Jim's enjoys television Eileen has developed an active social life and sings the praises of Hag Fold Community Centre.

She first went there nine months ago and has since taken up floral art and acrylic painting and attended assertiveness classes.

She said: "I can't speak highly enough of the centre. It is fantastic and has made a great difference to my life."
