BEATEN for the third time this season 3-2 at Leicester on Saturday, Bury became wooden spoonists of the Second Division.

They are the only side that has not recorded a win and they have conceded twice the number of goals they have scored.

This is a depressing start to the campaign and, obviously, a better standard of performance is quickly requiredif the struggle later in the season is not to be severe and threatening.

From the Bury Times of Friday September 9, 1977

IAN Robins lit up Gigg Lane in the 1-0 win over Oxford United on Monday night with a goal which could have been lifted straight from a schoolboy annual.

In the fifth minute of extra time in this Football League Cup replay, he fastened on to the ball just outside his own penalty area and set off through the middle at a fair gallop.

The Oxford defence retreated and allowed him to keep going and from 25 yards he rifled in a left foot shot which brave goalkeeper Roy Burton hadn't an earthly chance of stopping.
