STAFF at a village school are celebrating a cash boost for the second successive year, as reward for good teaching and commitment.

Teachers at Tockholes Primary have received a School Achievement Award worth £1,750 for their dedication to raising standards. The school was notified by the Department of Education and Skills.

Headteacher Barbara Cocken said: "We have 48 pupils here and because we have fewer than ten pupils in each year group, our SAT results aren't published, but each of our pupils are monitored and their progress is tracked in all areas of the curriculum."

As well as national curriculum subjects, extra subjects are also covered by the assessment scheme, including French, thinking skills and citizenship.

Mrs Cocken continued: "We are thrilled to get the award for a second year and the staff really deserve this extra money because they work so hard."

In total, twelve members of staff, full and part-time, will benefit from the award.

Ruth Marriner, school governor, said: "It's a testament to the hard working staff, the supportive parents and of course the children who work so hard.

"We are such a small school and this money will go a long way to giving the staff what they really deserve."

Achievement awards, which began in 1998, were handed out to 7,000 schools across the country this year.

Cash boosts are handed to schools which have demonstrated improved test results since 2002.
