DID anybody else spot the supreme irony in the remarks of Dr Adrian and Liz Humm, of the Dargaville Medical Centre, in New Zealand, who emigrated 10 years ago ("not to get away from England"), when commenting on the lack of success that far right-wing parties enjoy in New Zealand?

Mr Humm states that "New Zealand is not a utopian vision of racial harmony. We have just reached a population of four million and there are immigration problems that need to be addressed honestly. However, the racist policies of the far right get short shrift from the vast majority of the population."

Well, obviously! They would say that, wouldn't they? Could it have anything to do with the fact that the vast majority of the population of that country are actually immigrants themselves?

Does anybody over there ever bother to ask the Maoris for their opinions on immigration any more?
