A BUSINESSWOMAN is playing her cards right by launching a unique company to address the problem faced by emergency services in identifying youngsters at accident scenes.

IdentiKids, run by 33-year-old Nadine Lewis, from Radcliffe, has developed an ID card for children which provides contact and medical information, including signed authorisation for any emergency situation. This PVC heat, light and scratch resistant card can be attached discreetly to all makes of child seats and pushchairs.

A real-life situation sparked the idea to help Nadine set up the business which officially launched trading earlier this year.

She explained: "A friend of mine was taking her children to school one day when she had a car accident. It was just a tiny bump but it set me wondering what would have happened if the accident had been more serious. And the idea was born from that."

Mother-of-three Nadine, of Woodvale Road, Radcliffe, added: " Statistics show a frightening number of accidents each

year. In 2001, there were more than 300,000 casualties with almost 5,000 children killed or seriously injured.

"A parent or carer can be left incoherent after an accident and may not have ID with them. So, the identity card fits the need to provide vital medical and contact information for rescue personnel in such a situation."

Nadine added: "It allows relatives to be contacted immediately."

Through the support of Business Link North Manchester, Bolton Business Ventures and UK Online for Business. Nadine was able to undergo market research. Distribution outlets already include schools, hospitals, maternity units, pharmacists and after school clubs.

If the schools do take the cards, then Nadine gives them back a donation for their own fund raising. The cards are subsequently bought by parents who wish to take part.
