IN a tense finish to the Northern Premier League match at Shap Road, Chorley held their nerve to deny Kendal victory and claim 10 points for a winning draw.

Put in to bat, Chorley made steady headway, with Tom Smith (44) and skipper Jim Fazackerley (33) adding 69 for the second wicket, the highest partnership of the match.

Solid knocks of 34 by Neil Senior and professional Stephen John enabled the visitors to reach 195 all out Home professional Kabir Khan ended his afternoon's bowling work with 5-64.

In the Kendal reply, five of the top six batsmen made significant contributions, and on 109-3 with 20 overs remaining, the home side seemed set for victory.

But they were undone by two stunning catches by Fazackerley at slip and Smith on the boundary. In the end, Kendal needed seven to win from John's final over.

They managed only four singles and finished three short on 193-7.

John, who bowled with impeccable accuracy in the crucial closing overs, claimed 2-54 from 21 overs and Andy Harty 2-29 from nine overs.
