A MODERN apprenticeship scheme could be introduced at Burnley Council in a bid to increase the number of young people working for the organisation.

The idea is one of a raft of proposals included in the council's Human Resource Strategy which will go before a meeting of the executive on June 17. The document outlines the approach the council should take towards its 650 employees over the next three years and how performance targets can be met. The strategy deals with employee development, equality of opportunity, health and safety and pay and conditions.

It also refers to a Government review of the pension scheme for local government employees. There are a number of proposals for encouraging under-represented groups to seek council employment.
