THE Mother's Union next meets on Tuesday, June 17, when the guest speaker will be Betty Scott. She is the section leader for Worldwide Mother's Union in the Diocese.

Betty has recently returned from Rwanda and Burundi and will be able to update members on the linked Diocese of Shogwe.

Rainbows meet on Wednesday and Thursday evening between 5.15 and 6.15pm - if you think your daughter might be interested you are welcome to call in on either night for a visit.

Rainbows are aged between four-and-a-half and seven years. The next project is making Father's Day cards and presents.

Valerie and David Smith, who live in Ridge Ave, have indicated to the Parish Council that the piece of land opposite the school would be donated as a school car park on condition that the whole piece of land that they own would be designated as "urban" in the local plan.

The Parish Council noted this item and resolved to discuss the matter at a later date. Valerie and David are happy to discuss their proposals with villagers.

Worsthorne School Parents Group are holding their Annual Fete on Saturday, June 14 from 12noon to 3pm. No entry charge and everyone welcome.

A mini-football tournament is being organised and is open to anyone. Stalls include pie and pea lunches, tombola, bric a brac etc.

Burnley FC mascot Bertie Bee will make an appearance between 12.30pm and 1.15pm, Burnley Fire Brigade and Welliphant will be around, as will the former Clarets player Brian Flynn.

Worsthorne Wine Circle will hold The Summer Party on the June 30. More information from Lynda on 421888. After serious deliberations the winners of the Sweet Wine Judging were John Rushton, Len Ashworth and Mike Hobley.
