BURNLEY are closing in on the capture of former Wolves defender Mohamed Camara.

The Guinean international, 27, has been targeted as Clarets boss Stan Ternent looks to start plugging the gaps left by a host of summer departures.

And I can exclusively reveal Camara and his advisors are now waiting for Turf Moor paymasters to give the green light to a move that would see Camara sign a two-year-deal at Turf Moor.

The player's representative, Phil Black, said: "We are not there yet, but I think the move is going to happen.

"We have had talks with Burnley about a two-year contract and now we are just waiting to hear back from them.

"The manager is very keen to sign him and Mo is very keen to play for the club. He was very impressed by the manager's attitude and what he had to say about his plans for the future and now he just wants to play in the team."

Camara is currently a free agent commanding no fee after being released by Wanderers as a result of their promotion to the Premiership.

A cartilage Injury wrecked his final season at Molineux before he returned to the squad that won the play-offs to finally seal a top flight berth.

Several first division rivals, including Preston and Coventry, are rivals for the signature of the "speedy and athletic" wing back, who Ternent has earmarked for a left full back role.

But the ball looks to be firmly in Ternent's court after a round of seemingly successful talks - exclusively revealed in the Telegraph last week - ended with Camara keen to commit.

Former Clarets defender Drissa Diallo also played his part in trying to persuade Camara to sign up to Ternent's Turf Moor revolution.

Fellow Guinean Diallo, who last week joined Ipswich after being offered a deal Burnley could not match, told his international colleague of the high regard he has for the club and for Ternent.

Black added: "Drissa spoke very positively about Burnley and told Mo he would have a great time there.

"He said Mo would have no regrets if he signed and that's our hope in the very near future."

However, Burnley's hopes of landing West Ham's England U21 keeper Stephen Bywater look to have taken a nosedive following a new deal struck with the player's former club Rochdale.

Ternent has held talks to try and tempt the Manchester-born keeper back north to solve his goalkeeping conundrum.

But 'Dale, who have a sell-on clause should Bywater leave Upton Park, have bowed to the Hammers suggestion that payments made on appearances should be revised downwards following their relegation from the Premiership.

Rochdale chairman David Kilpatrick, whose club have so far received £625,000 from the deal, said: "We had to be sensible and realise the deal we initially had with West Ham was based on income from Premiership matches.

"We have restructured the deal in such a way that, should West Ham regain their Premiership status, we will return to the clauses in the initial contract."
