LEIGH Centurions have been warned not to take their foot off the gas when they travel to meet bottom club Dewsbury Rams on Sunday.

Head coach Paul Terzis wants his table-topping side to show their class when they switch their attentions back to the bread and butter of league football.

Terzis has told his squad to forget about last week's Arriva Trains Cup semi-final victory and re-focus their attentions on the National League One programme.

Pressing engagements

"We don't want another hiccup like we had at Oldham the other week," he said. "It's nice to know that we're in the Arriva Trains Final and in with a chance of more silverware, but we've got far more pressing engagements in the next couple of weeks."

After Sunday's trip to Dewsbury Leigh will take on the club seen as their biggest rival for a place in Super League - Salford. The heavyweights meet at Hilton Park on Sunday week.

The Rams have begun the campaign badly, losing five of their opening six games. They have the worst defensive record in the division but have shown in the past they can be tough customers on their own ground.

"We can't afford to take things for granted," Terzis warned. "We know that victory has got to be earned.

"With our nearest rivals Rochdale and Salford playing each other, a win for us will open up a significant gap at the top of the table over one of them. The players have been reminded of the importance of Sunday's game in the gran scheme of things."

Half-back John Duffy and winger Leroy Rivett will both be given late fitness tests on knee injuries. Duffy missed the Whitehaven victory while Rivett was hurt in the same game. "Duffy has a chance, but Leroy's struggling," Terzis admitted.

If Rivett is ruled out, Dave Alstead is likely to be added to the squad. Alstead and Lee Sanderson came through unscathed after featuring for the National League U21s side that lost 52-12 to Super League U21s at Hilton Park on Tuesday night.

Kiwi second rower Bryan Henare has been declared fit after taking a stray finger in the eye against Whitehaven.
