REGARDING the debate about the local band, The Fashionable Winos, my main concern is the way this group is beginning to escalate into something all too familiar.

Back in the 1960s, the Rolling Stones made their name by glamorising drink and drugs. And although by today's standards they may seem old and tame, the world still had to put up with and suffer the repercussions of their antics.

To me, the parallel between them and this current band is startling. Are we once again going to allow such a band to dominate popular culture and also take on the role of ambassadors for Lancashire?

I certainly hope not, because in today's world, young people have many more positive role-models than they did in the Sixties, with artists such as Ronan Keating and Gareth Gates.

Let today's musicians stand tall because of the music they make, and let's not fall victim to the mistakes that led to the Ozzy Osbournes and Mick Jaggers of this world becoming successful.
