COST-conscious companies can now have their staff trained free under a pioneering project spearheaded by Bury College's Business Solutions.

The innovative scheme addresses the barrier whereby costs of releasing staff often stops employers from developing the skills of their workforce.

Staff can be trained for free, up to NVQ (National Vocational Qualification) level two or equivalent, and financial compensation will be provided for the time off that employees will need to take.

Sima Lahi, project co-ordinator for co-organisers Business Solutions, said: "This groundbreaking initiative benefits both the employee and employer. It encourages employers to train employees towards a qualification, addressing key barriers to training in small firms, namely the cost to employers of giving staff time off work, and the lack of time for training due to work."
