FORMER Ewood favourite David Dunn admitted he would love to play for Blackburn Rovers again one day.

Dunn began a new chapter in his career yesterday when he was officially unveiled to the press as Birmingham City's new £5.5 million club-record signing.

But the 23-year-old insists his love affair with Rovers is far from over and he hopes he has not played his last ever game for his home-town club.

"I'm a Blackburn fan and the club will always mean a lot to me," said Dunn.

"Football is a funny game and I would love to go back there at some stage and maybe finish my career there.

"But at this moment in time, it's maybe best for all parties that I leave and I don't want to leave on bad terms.

"I could be critical and say what I feel but I'm not going to do that because, at the end of the day, I'm a Blackburn Rovers supporter and that means a lot to me."

"I still want the club to be successful and I don't want to get myself into a position where I can't go back there one day.

"I just want to wish them all the best and I'll certainly be shaking Graeme Souness's hand when I see him again next.

"He gave me my chance in football and that's something I'll always remember and always thank him for."

Dunn's departure from Ewood looked inevitable from the moment he turned down a new contract offer at the start of the summer.

But the England midfielder believes the club had already made their mind up to sell him even though they tried to offer him a new contract.

"I don't really want to get involved in all that but I think that was more of a passing comment than anything else," said Dunn.

"It was a similar situation to Paul Robinson and what happened at Leeds. I was in a similar position to him and that's what happened to me.

"I just want to make it clear to the fans that I never wanted to leave. But I think it was made pretty clear to me that I wasn't needed by the club anymore."

Dunn is still coming to terms with the fact that his Rovers career is over after a 15-year association with the club.

But he insists the fans will always have a special place in his heart and he was quick to thank them for the way they have always got behind him.

"I just want to say a big thank-you to the Blackburn fans for all the support they've given me since I've been there," added Dunn.

"If it wasn't for them and all the support they gave me, then I wouldn't be where I am today."
