A community association has gone from strength to strength thanks to the work of a group of determined neighbours.

The Revidge community Association was set over a year ago and aimed to give youngsters in the area something to do with their spare time.

It started with a football frenzy with over 100 people attending and since then the association has organised a series of sporting events for all members of the community.

Mrs Judy Smith, Secretary of the association said, "It all began after with ordinary folk who had never done anything like before, but wanted to do something for people in the area.

"It was very difficult but that first Football Frenzy event set the ball rolling. Andrea Dixon who worked for the Council encouraged and supported us as did Recreation and Play Services and the Asian Sports Association."

The association had one hour training sessions each week throughout the summer and funded by Active Coaching they held a three week two hour fun session. Over 30 children took part.

Judy added, "All this happened in the St Silas School yard thanks to the support of teachers and governors. We then moved the Saturday morning sessions to Corporation Park.

"We entered our first five-aside tournament in March before competing in this month's Farley's Fives at Witton Park."
