SO once again our Lib-Dem MEP tries (Letters, July 3) to put a pro-EU 'spin' on what is a serious threat to our constitution.

A collective trade body does not need a permanent 'president' or 'foreign minister' -- a nascent state does.

However, he gives the game away in his last paragraph... "Unless you want a world run by George Bush."

The whole idea of the 'ever closer union' enshrined in the Treaty of Rome is the creation of a single political, military and economic entity to rival the United States, not the free-trade organisation the British people voted to join 30 years ago.

As for being 'isolated,' if being 'isolated' means that we enjoy the same lifestyle as the other nations of Europe not in the EU -- Norway and Switzerland -- then the sooner we leave this waste of money (£3billion a year) the better!
