BLACKBURN new boy Lorenzo Amoruso today admitted he's relishing the chance to test himself in the Premiership after becoming Graeme Souness's second signing of the summer.

The Italian defender finally completed his £1.35 million switch to Rovers after signing a three-year deal over the weekend and immediately got down to training with his new team-mates yesterday.

But while he's pleased that his future has finally been resolved, the 32-year-old has conceded it was tough to leave Rangers after six incredible years north of the border.

"I am looking forward to a new challenge, a new adventure in my life," said the towering defender.

"But I'm sad my time with Rangers is over. I had six fantastic years and didn't want to leave.

"But everyone knows about the club's financial problems and I had to settle my future.

"I will miss the everyday contact with Glasgow and my friends. But the memories will never leave -- they will always be in my heart."

Souness first made his move for the Italian at the start of the summer but the long-running transfer saga took almost three months to conclude as the player haggled over personal terms.

However, the final details of his contract were eventually ironed out last week and he flew into England over the weekend to formally put pen to paper.

He was set to be unveiled at an official Press conference today before moving into temporary digs with fellow Italian and new Rovers team-mate Ciccio Grabbi.

But the former Fiorentina star, who was a cult hero at Ibrox, admits he was disappointed he never got the chance to open talks about extending his stay in Glasgow after the club decided they needed to cut costs by getting him off the wage bill.

"The club could not give me an extension - they couldn't afford me," said Amo.

"But there were never any talks between us. Not once did we discuss what kind of cut in wages I was prepared to take.

"Leaving now means I've got a good deal from Rovers and Rangers get a fee for me."

Amoruso had the distinction of becoming Rangers' first ever Catholic captain and he won three titles, four Scottish and three League Cups during his Ibrox career.

Now Rovers' latest signing is concentrating on achieving similar success with his new club.

"I've only had one training session but can tell already the place is well organised and has good discipline," he added.

"There is much to look forward to, including the UEFA Cup. And I'd love some day to meet Rangers in Europe.

"I will return to Glasgow often and am looking forward to seeing an Old Firm game as a spectator."
