TWELVE caravans were left without electricity over the weekend after a driver lost his way and crushed power cables.

The driver was collecting caravaners to take them on holiday when he became lost on the site in Woodland Park, West Bradford, near Clitheroe on Saturday night.

The car drove over electricity wires, leaving one line of caravans on the 200-pitch park without power.

One disabled elderly resident, who lives on the park permanently, but declined to be named, was given alternative accommodation by the site manager.

She said: "I awoke on Saturday morning at 2.40am and there was no electricity. Everyone is really annoyed. I have food in the freezer and fridge which will be ruined."

Site owner, Harold Calbern, said: "We had an emergency team here on Saturday but he said it would be dangerous to repair. A specialist team are coming today from Lincolnshire to fix it.

"The driver has run over cables on the surface as well as underground and managed to crush them. I have spoken to the people affected and they have access to facilities in the clubhouse."
