Blackburn Rovers footballer Dwight Yorke faces a further wait to discover whether he will get off a speeding rap following more High Court arguments.

The Blackburn Rovers striker wasn't in court to hear Mr Justice Owen reserve judgement in the appeal - for the second time.

In May the judge heard arguments made on behalf of Mr Yorke, accused of travelling at 61mph in his Porsche sports car in a 40mph zone, and said he would give judgement in June.

But last month Mr Justice Owen said he needed to hear further submissions in the case, which returned to court yesterday. Observing the issue had "grown in complexity," the judge said he needed more time to think about what his ruling should be, and indicated he will reach a final decision next week.

In the disputed case, Mr Yorke's legal team say his conviction for speeding should be quashed because of a legal loophole that could affect thousands of motorists.

His lawyers claim because the Trinidad and Tobago international hadn't fully completed or signed a notice sent to him under the Road Traffic Act 1988, it couldn't be said that he admitted to driving his Porsche on Princess Road, Withington, Manchester on May 15, 2001.
