THE parents of tragic fan Nathan Shaw handed over more than £1,000 to head injury charity Headway this weekend in his memory.
Nathan, 17, was killed in Burnley town centre when he was hit on the head with a bottle as he made his way to the Burnley v Nottingham Forest match at Turf Moor at the end of last year.
Andrew McNee, of Rossendale, was jailed for seven years after pleading guilty to manslaughter. Nathan's memory has been honoured by the creation of an annual memorial football tournament organised by the Nottingham City Building Works where Nathan was an apprentice plumber.
The inaugural event raised £1,000 and a further £120 has since been added to the fund in his memory.
The cash was officially handed over in a ceremony on the pitch on Saturday, before Nottingham Forest's game against Cardiff, and the trophy for the memorial football match was also presented to the winners of the match.
The first of what is hoped to be an annual tournament was played earlier this year with some of Nathan's colleagues playing in it.
Nottingham Forest provided football kits for all of the teams that took part.
