PEOPLE living in the Daneshouse and Stoneyholme area of Burnley will be given their final chance to shape the future of their neighbourhood this week.

A public meeting will be held at Stoneyholme and Daneshouse Youth and Community Centre on Thursday, between 5.30pm and 7.30pm, when residents will be asked for their views on how the area could be improved.

Ward councillor Mozaquir Ali is urging everyone who can get to the meeting to attend to put forward their ideas for a possible bid for government cash.

He said: "Stoneyholme and Daneshouse has been selected as one of three or four areas in Burnley to produce an action plan for government money. We, as councillors, arranged four or five consultation meetings and this one has been organised in partnership with Burnley Community Organisations Forum and the council.

"It will be the final round-up of what people have said so far and anything they want adding to or removing from the list can be done before it is all put together as a Burnley action plan.

"Once Burnley has decided what the plan is going to be it will be put to Elevate and the East Lancashire Partnership and a bid sent to the government.

" I am telling people it is their final chance and I would encourage everyone to come along to have their say on something which is so important because it involves their neighbourhood, their homes and their environment.

"It is an opportunity to shape the future of the area. I am hoping between 150 and 200 people will attend the meeting."

Work in the area could range from small improvements to demolition and new building projects.

During September council officers will sort all the responses and discuss the plan with consultants before making a bid for a share of the £500 million housing renewal fund allocated to nine pathfinder areas across the country.

A follow-up meeting will be held at the community centre, in Daneshouse Road, on October 21, where residents will be given feedback from the consultation exercise.
