COLNE Rhythm and Blues Festival has once again been an overwhelming success with thousands of people flocking to the town.

Fans young and old flocked to Pendle's premier tourist event as the main streets through Colne became a sea of people on Saturday and yesterday.

Crowds also packed into many of the local pubs throughout the Bank Holiday weekend to see the sessions and organisers are expecting 60,000 people to have visited the town by the end of today.

Visitors to the international stage on Saturday were wowed by performances from Doug Jay and the Blue Jays and the Vargas Blues Band and on Sunday the quality entertainment continued with Lazy Lester and Lightin' Willie and the Poorboys lighting up the stage.

Other venues included Pendle Leisure Centre, which was transformed into The Benedictine Super Roadhouse, The Crown Hotel, the Conservative Club, Lord Rodney pub, as well as the acoustic stage at the Lesser Municipal Hall.

A police spokesman said the event had gone well and there had been no significant problems in the town during the weekend.

But the festival is not over yet and the crowds are expected to continue drinking and soaking up the atmosphere into this evening.

King Pleasure and the Biscuit Boys will be the finale on the international stage, following on from Nine Below Zero and Savoy Brown.

Visitors to the Benedictine Super Roadhouse will hear performances from the Cliff Stocker Band and The Uptown Band and there will be another batch of local talent and newcomers on the youth Up4It stage, aimed at showcasing young talent from East Lancashire.
