RECORD crowds attended the 76th annual Chipping Show at the weekend.

More than 5,000 attended as the event, at the Chipping Showground, returned to normal following two years of restrictions due to foot and mouth disease.

More than a hundred prizes were handed out for the event organised by the Chipping and District Agricultural and Horticultural Society.

Events ranged from an eight-mile fell race up 1,900 feet, cattle and livestock shows, cheese, cookery and flower competitions and even the Chocolate Cake Cup.

The fell race, which covered eight miles including ascent of Parlick summit, was won in a time of one hour, four minutes and 21 seconds by a runner from Salford Harriers.

In the Cheese section 12 out of the 14 available awards, including three cups, were won by local firm Greenfields Dairy Products of Goosnargh.
