COASTGUARDS and helicopter search teams rescued two Burnley schoolboys after they became stranded while crossing an estuary in Lytham.
The rescue took place around 1am today after the boys went missing while on a trip to Pleasureland amusement park in Southport.
The boys' friend managed to swim ashore while the others became trapped on a rocky area in a channel.
The boy rushed to a house to raise the alarm.
Coastguards and search teams from Blackpool, Lytham and Southport took part in the search, as well as an RAF Sea King helicopter, and the boys were rescued by lifeboat.
The boys were taken to Blackpool Victoria Hospital for check-ups but they are described by police as being safe and well.
