A PENSIONER used her mobile phone to alert emergency services when she became stuck in a muddy pond while trying to free her dog.
Police said the 67-year-old, who has not been named, tried to rescue one of her two dogs from the pond at Springwood picnic site, off Accrington Road, Whalley, when she became lodged in the mud herself on Saturday around 5.30pm.
She called police, who contacted firefighters and an ambulance crew.
Inspector Heyhurst, of Blackburn Police, said: "The dog went into the pond to drink and became stuck. She tried to rescue it but got stuck herself.
"Luckily, she had a mobile phone with her and managed to alert police."
She was helped to safety and taken to Blackburn Royal Infirmary suffering from hypothermia and a hip injury.
