LORRY drivers parking in an industrial estate overnight are causing sleepless nights for locals.

Residents say up to 50 truckers are often parked overnight at The Old Mill Industrial units in School Lane, Bamber Bridge.

But they claim the constant stream of the huge articulated lorries pulling into the yard until 11pm, with some setting off again as early as 4am, is interrupting their sleep.

Now the residents have complained to South Ribble Borough Council chiefs in a bid to get the vehicles moved on and security measures put in place to stop them coming back.

Samantha Ainsworth, 31, of School Lane, said: "I've been here for about six years and there are a lot more lorries piling in nowadays, waking us up at 5.30am in the morning.

"We don't know who these people are, they just roll in to sleep, but I am concerned about my children because they are constantly woken up in the night."

Another resident, who asked not to be named, said: "It came to a head really over the summer with the hot nights, when windows were open at night. We were being woken up at 4.30am.

"There is a constant noise and vibrations from these vehicles. There's also the problem of what it is doing structurally to the houses and roads."

Bamber Bridge North councillor Carol Chisholm has informed the council's environmental health department about the residents' dilemma.

A council spokesman said: "We are looking into the residents' complaints."

Landlords of the site, Ashtenne, based in Winckley Square, Preston, said they have received no complaints from tenants or residents.

But a spokesman said: "In the past we have had some complaints and have put signs up and security guards to move them on.

"If we did get any further complaints, we would look at it to see how we could deal with it."
