A COMMUNITY group will look at an alternative to a youth shelter plan so controversial it caused a walk-out at a recent public meeting.
Sheila McVan, Baxenden Community Forum's fundraising co-ordinator, said they were considering instead an indoor centre.
Hyndburn Council plans for the shelter on Hollins Lane recreation ground were in disarray last week after a group of residents walked out of the area council meeting demanding the project be delayed.
Coun John Griffiths had just announced it was in the process of appointing a consultant to look at the issue of the shelter.
Today Mrs McVan said she did not want to enter into an argument about the shelter and was not against any proposals. But she agreed with residents who said the shelter would drive younger children away.
She said the forum will talk to Hollins County High, in Hollins Lane, and the New Era Centre, in Paradise Street, Accrington, as well as looking at alternative sites.
