A WOMAN from Crawshawbooth has won the title of Adult Learner of the Year.
Lisa Marie Howorth, 25, was presented with a certificate and a cheque for £50 by Accrington and Rossendale College where she studied an open course in psychology, which is equivalent to two A-levels.
The award is presented to the student who demonstrated exceptional personal and educational achievement.
Lisa Marie not only excelled in her chosen subject, but fell pregnant, had a baby and won a promotion to manager at Lunn Poly where she works, missing only one lesson in the 12 months that she was a student.
This was the first award ceremony for people studying open courses, aimed at people returning to education after leaving school at 16.
Lisa Marie signed up to study at the college, in Sandy Lane, Accrington, with her mum, Christine, 51, of Booth Road, Bacup, last year.
