A BURGLAR stole £17,000-worth of equipment from a school after smashing a window and kicking through three doors to reach a store cupboard.

It is believed the person responsible may have known of the five new laptops and several digital cameras at Queen's Park Technology College, in Shadsworth Road, Blackburn.

The break-in took place between the end of school on Wednesday and Thursday morning.

Headmaster Ian Bott, who is in his first week in the job, said: "It is quite a serious crime. We quickly repaired the damage and kept the disruption to children to a minimum.

"The laptops were brand-new and for the teachers. We will have to speak to the education authority about replacing them."

A police spokesman said: "The offender entered the premises by throwing a rock through a ground floor window and kicked through several doors to search classrooms for several laptops and digital cameras.

"We appeal for anyone with information to come forward."
