THE Britannia Coconut Dancers celebrated 100 years of their traditional folk dancing troupe.
The dancers, named after the miners who put coconuts on their knees to crawl through the mines, performed their famous 'Tip Toe Polka' for an audience of 300 people at Bacup Conservative Club on Saturday.
Folk dancing groups from across the country came to watch the Coconut Dancers, who were wearing their usual white smocks to the knees, a kilt, black breeches, black jumper and a white pirate-style hat.
Joe Healy, dance secretary, said: "We were received well and everyone seemed impressed with it all. It was a good day."
The troupe was formed at the Britannia Working Men's Club, Bacup, by James Maudsley.
