BLACKBURN with Darwen Council may take part in a pilot project to cut education red tape.

Councillors will decide this week whether or not to adopt the new plan.

Blackburn with Darwen is one of several councils selected for the pilot project which will look at ways of bringing all education information together and making it clearer and easier to understand.

It is hoped that education teams could save time and reduce costs by reducing paperwork.

If the scheme is given the go-ahead, is hoped that the first Single Education Plan to cover three years will be off the drawing board by April 2004.

The SEP will cover key targets the authority is trying to achieve and how to achieve them.
