HENNING Berg plans to stay at Rangers until the end of the season, despite the prospect of managerial jobs in Norway.

The 34-year-old defender has made it clear he regards the current campaign as his last as a professional and will return to his homeland in the summer.

But that has not stopped Berg being linked with a job which is available at the moment at Lyn.

But Berg - in Athens preparing for tomorrow night's Champions League clash with Panathinaikos - is keen to make the most of his final opportunity to play at the highest level.

"I am definitely playing on this season, there is no question about that," he said.

"Six weeks ago when I signed I knew there was a possibility of playing in the Champions League.

"There were a lot of reasons for joining Rangers and that was one of them.

"I could have gone to Brann Bergen last season if I had wanted to be a manager there.

"What I am going to do when I go back to Norway, I don't know yet."

Rangers are likely to need all of Berg's experience tomorrow night as the Greek runners-up have an excellent home record in the competition and a vociferous support on their own turf.

The defender was at Blackburn last season and recalled a game in Bulgaria against CSKA Sofia which was played in the most hostile of atmospheres.

Rovers drew 3-3 on the night to go through on away goals and the players needed police protection to prevent the home fans from pelting them with missiles.

Berg said: "I think the security will be better tomorrow because it is the Champions League and that was a UEFA Cup game.

"I don't think there will be many problems from a security point of view."
