DRAMA students are to perform a story based around Civil War events in an atmospheric pub which has the skull of an executioner on display.
Performing Arts A level students from Holy Cross College, Bury, are preparing to perform a 30 minute re-enactment, including dance and music, of real events at the Pack Horse pub in Affetside.
James, the Seventh Earl of Derby -- who had his head chopped off in Bolton town centre during the Civil War -- and his executioner, George Wherwell, will be the main stars of the performance. Legend has it that the skull of George Wherwell now sits on the fireplace behind the bar of the Pack Horse Pub.
The executioner was beheaded outside the pub by Royalists and had his head placed on a pike outside as a warning to other rebels.
Student Rachael Edgington, aged 17, said: "We have planned the drama around a few extracts of different stories from the past."
The students have gathered information about the Civil War by trawling through Internet sites. The performance will take place on Wednesday November 12.
