HYNDBURN and Rossendale TUC has called a public meeting in Accrington to oppose the possible transfer of council houses out of local authority ownership.
The meeting, at Accrington Town Hall at 7.30pm on Thursday, November 27, has been called by campaigners who fear the housing stock will fall into private hands.
The area's TUC secretary Peter Billington said: "We are opposed to this transfer because we think any organisation which takes over council housing will not have the same commitment to good, affordable housing as the local council.
"At our meeting we want to begin a campaign to ask council house tenants to say 'no' to any sell-off of council housing. We hope as many individual tenants and tenants' groups as possible will support this campaign."
