BOYHOOD Sunderland fan Stan Ternent was a happy man after Burnley made their point on Saturday.

Ternent returned to his native North East hoping the Clarets could darken the mood at the Stadium of Light.

And after an impressive display, the Burnley boss declared himself happy at earning a share of the spoils.

Ternent said: "This part of the world is home for me and, although it's not like it was when I used to be here, it's a fantastic place for football.

"It's probably the best in the world as far as I'm concerned, so it's always nice to come home. But the main thing now is Burnley and this is another point towards the target.

"There's a case for arguing we could have had all three points, but Mick McCarthy will have as good a case for them getting the points, so I think it's a reasonably fair result.

"They were by far the better side in the opening ten minutes when we weren't at the races, but Brian (Jensen) kept us in it.

"As the game went on we conceded a poor goal, but we had chances and it just wouldn't go in for us. The bottom of their post must have been square, but we kept pegging away and in the second half we got the goal and I think we deserved to share the points."

Ternent praised both goalkeepers for a string of top-drawer saves at either end of the park in a thrill-a-minute clash. Kevin Kyle gave the Black Cats the lead with a scrappy effort six minutes before the break.

But after creating several clear-cut chances, Ian Moore finally popped up with a deserved equaliser in the 72nd minute.

Ternent added: "It was a good, open game of football that could have finished six-each. Sometimes it goes for you and sometimes not, but we were creating chances and once we had the ball up their end with Glen Little and Robbie Blake stretching them, I always felt we had a chance of getting a goal and Ian came up trumps.

"He can still improve on his ball retention but he's got terrific pace and his is very willing. He's a handful and he did very well and fully deserved his goal."
