Wilmslow 1 Leigh Athletic 1: LEIGH Athletic were cursing their luck as another late disputed penalty decision went against them at top of the table Wilmslow.

The Latics dominated the first half and deservedly took the lead when a quick break ended with Karl Sheppard tucking away a loose ball.

Despite their supremacy Leigh couldnt find the killer second goal and were made to pay later.

The second half started in the same way as the Wilmslow keeper produced an astonishing save to keep out a Neil Sumner point blank header. The let-off inspired Wilmslow who dominated the remainder of the game but Leigh held firm until an assistant referee flagged for a penalty that defied belief.

Chris Coupe got a hand to the ball but couldnt prevent the equaliser. Both teams had chances to win it with Bren Smith going closest for Leigh.

The Reserves drew 1-1 with Dukinfield, Jason Huyton continuing his goalscoring streak.

The A team also drew 4-4 despite being 4-2 down with only 50 seconds remaining. The highlight of the game being the fact that the visiting centre forward missed the opening five minutes after being locked in the toilet, Royton not realising they only had 10 men.

Saturday sees a local derby as the first team entertain Atherton Town, KO 2pm. The reserves travel to Wythenshawe Amateurs.
