There were personal best times galore as Pioneer 79 Swimming Club held its annual gala at Hyndburn Leisure Centre.

For nearly every swimmer who took part in the two day event surpassed their best performances on a weekend of top action in the pool.

From the under eights to the seniors, every swimmer gave their all -- and their all paid dividends!

While there were a number of personal bests achieved, there was only one new club record and that went to Max Butler in the under eights, who set a new best time in the 25m freestyle.

It was the culmination of fine individual display from Max who also won the backstroke and breaststroke with Oliver Crabtree preventing a clean sweep by winning the butterfly.

Esther Worrall won three events in the same age group when she won the breaststroke, butterfly and freestyle. Abigail Beardmore denied her four wins out of four by winning the backstroke.

However, there were clean sweeps in the under 10s category when Bethany Honey and James Thompson won every event in their section! They both won the four main swimming strokes as well as the 100m freestyle and individual medley.

In the under 11s and 12s, Lauren Crabtree and Emily Fairbrother dominated the girls races while Adam Braid and Robert Harison did likewise in the boys.

Lauren won 100m butterfly and 100m and 200m freestyle events while Emily touched home first in the backstroke, breaststroke and 200m individual medley.

Adam won four races -- backstroke, breaststroke, butterfly and individual medley -- while Robert won the remaining two freestyle events.

Natalie Honey followed in her sisters footsteps by virtually cleaning up in the under 13s/14s age group while Jack Walsh won five out of the six events for the boys.

Only the 100m breaststroke escaped the clutches of Natalie -- which was won by Rachel Braid -- while Luke Marriner denied Jack a clean sweep by winning the backstroke.

In the Open Age group, David Fairbrother was the outstanding swimmer by winning five of the six events. Fairbrother won the 100m breaststroke, butterfly, 100m and 200m freestyle and the 200m individual medley. Robert West was first home in the backstroke event.

In the ladies section, there were three winners with Joanne Lougheed winning the freestyle events and 100 backstroke, Katie Bartrop winning the 200m individual medley and breaststroke while the 100m butterfly was won by Rebecca Stones.

Organiser Ruth Marriner said that she was delighted so many swimmers achieved personal bests.
