GRAEME Souness will approach Aston Villa and the Premier League about extending Peter Enckelman's loan ahead of Blackburn's game with Birmingham on Saturday.

Enckelman is due to return to Villa before Rovers' trip to the Midlands after spending the last month at Ewood Park.

However, with Alan Kelly and David Yelldell still sidelined by injuries, Souness wants the Finn to stay and provide further cover for Brad Friedel.

"We are looking to extend the agreement because David Yelldell and Alan Kelly are still not right," said Souness.

The Rovers boss has also revealed he would like to keep the 26-year-old permanently when the transfer window opens in January.

"He's done very well in the reserves and we've been very happy with him," said Souness.

"We'd look to take his contract over and I think he would fancy a move here. He was third choice at Villa and he's currently number two here so I'm sure it would appeal to him."
