A 38-YEAR-OLD man has appeared before Burnley magistrates following the death of a pensioner in a road accident.
Manchester businessman Zahid Shafi, of Colne Road, Burnley, has been charged with dangerous driving, driving without due care and attention and failing to stop at the scene of an accident.
The defendant was bailed until January 5, on condition he lives at his home address and reports to the police station on Mondays and Fridays, between 9am and 10am.
Allegations of driving otherwise than in accordance with a licence, using an uninsured vehicle and no MOT were withdrawn by the bench.
Burnley man John Fallows, 71, known as Jack, was walking back to his Cardinal Street home after a night out last Thursday when he was said to have been involved in a collision with a car on Colne Road.
The popular pensioner had earlier been drinking with friends at the town's Paradise Club, where he was well known.
