I ALWAYS look forward to the Spurs games, it's possibly something about them being our path into Europe over the past couple of years.

This year however, their visit was not about Europe, more a desperate quest for points towards safety.

A stark reminder of how quickly fortunes change.

Desperate was certainly the word for the first half of Saturday's game. Yet again we settled into our style of playing quick passes to the front two and then another ten passes to get right back to where we started.

No tempo to the game and no urgency to our play. Unforgivable considering the situation we are in.

One had to feel sorry for Paul Gallagher on his full debut.

Always a willing worker, he was finding himself increasingly isolated with no support from his strike partner or the midfield. Consequently he was crowded out all too easily and was losing the ball.

I don't know if the players heard the half time scores or if Souness connected with some well-aimed teacups but thank goodness there was a marked improvement.

Our players discovered a new tactical innovation - running with the ball.

Yes, instead of the five-yard passes with no attacking intent Ferguson, Emerton, etc. were running at the opposition. Result being that the Spurs defence were actually being asked to defend!

Not only that but Gallagher was finally getting the support that he hadn't had in the first half and chances were being created.

All we needed now was that bit of luck.

Twelve minutes to go and Gresko bursts forward, takes aim, the Blackburn End ducks and the ball flies in the corner with the aid of the most wicked of deflections. A huge slice of luck ?

You'd better believe it. But after all the bad luck we've had this season was it not overdue?

Jammiest goal of the season? Possibly. Worst celebration of the season? Definitely!

Gresko's had his critics among the fans, wrongly in my opinion, and the fact he scored the winner here can only do him good.

His 100 per cent commitment cannot be questioned though, something others in Rovers shirts could learn from.

Two wins out of three and although we're not exactly dusting down our passports, at least we're not thinking about making the M65 trip next season.

Obviously, the three points were valuable but there's still the worry that our strikers aren't scoring.

A fact not lost on Souness now that he is officially looking to add a striker to the ranks.

It seems that Adrian Ilie is 'too similar' to what we already have. If that's the case I'm glad we didn't pursue the deal, we certainly don't want another lazy, immobile striker who can't finish.
