£60,000 for
Community Programme
LEIGH Centurions have announced a successive Sportsmatch bid in conjunction with Community Sponsorship from local company Catalyst Roofing Systems, to run a Primary Schools Touch Rugby Programme for the next two years.
Through securing funding for the programme and the support of the Sporting Club Leigh directors, the Community Department have been able to successfully secure the services of both Craig Blackburn formerly with Salford City Reds and Paul Rowley this year's Player of the Year, to deliver the programme.
The programme aims to activley enter all primary schools in the form of Touch Rugby to children aged 5 to 11 years old. The programme is currently working in the Tyldesley/Astley area and will then move on to central Leigh schools after Christmas.
"The club is extremely proud to be able to offer a programme of this calibre to the Leigh Community and we feel as though the club is not only securing the future for the club but are also establishing themselves as an integral part of the Leigh Community;" says Hannah Forbes , Leigh Centurions Community Development Manager.
The Primary Schools Touch Rugby Programme is an added addition to the already highly acclaimed 'Numeracy through Rugby' day held at the club and the growing 'After Schools Prorgamme' deleivered by the Community Department. The club believe this is the start of a fast growing Community Department that will benefit both the club and the residents of the Leigh Community.
