WITH visitors Workington opting not to travel so they could watch England's historic World Cup win, Tyldesley RU First XV also enjoyed they day off with celebrations well into the night.

However, Tyldesley Knights had to bounce back following last week's surprise defeat to neighbours Leigh.

Indeed the league leaders showed true grit and a little bit of skill in disposing of visitors Warrington 23-8.

Tyldesley's tries came from fly half Ian Lysons and centre Liam Mountford, with full back Fraser Mackintosh converting both tries and kicking three penalties.

Tyldesley Dragons where on fire again, destroying Yorkshire visitors Wharfedale 77-7.

The Dalesmen turned up at St.George's Park with only 12 players so the home side fielding close to its strongest line-up this season lent them two players and the game started with Tyldesley one man to the good.

Tries came thick and fast with back rower Tom Cartwright playing in the centre bagging four. Good performers on the day were John Stocks, playing only his second game for the club, who grabbed his second try and youngster Brian Ndlovu who showed a good turn of speed throughout. Special mention must go to the front row of Danny Woodward, Paul Bowsher and Howard Hughes. With Woodward celebrating his 40th birthday the front row combined ages added up to their shirt numbers of 123.

Tyldesley Stallions, the club's newest team, travelled to Sale Sharks, Heywood Road ground to take on Sale Amateurs seconds. Despite going down 22-10 there were good performances from 18-year-old James Eckersley at fly half and try scorers Steve Pulman and Sheldon Jones.

The club is looking to continue to turn out a fourth team and anyone wanting to try a friendly game of social rugby should contact the club on 01942 882967 or attending training at 6.45pm every Tuesday or Thursday.
