CONTROVERSIAL plans for a £50million wind farm on Scout Moor, Edenfield, will be discussed by councillors.
Neighbours, who believe the 26 turbines proposed by Peel Holdings and United Utilities will be a blot on the landscape, have been campaigning against it and last month went on a moorland protest march, which was led by environmental campaigner David Bellamy.
The turbines will be 300ft tall and, according to the applicants, will provide green power to 51,000 homes in Rossendale and Rochdale and help to meet government targets on renewable energy.
Rossendale Council's development control committee meets today to decide its view on the planning application and what recommendation to make to the Department for Trade and Industry, which will decide on the proposals.
If either Rossendale Council or Rochdale Council, which are also being consulted, object to the plans, a public inquiry will be held.
