THE public consultation process on the proposed Leigh Sports Village has only another month to run.

Plans for the £75m education and leisure scheme at Pennington have been fine-tuned and re-drawn after talks between organisers, developers, objectors and residents.

"Some of the changes are minor, some significant," revealed Trevor Barton, the chairman of Leigh Sports Partnership.

"From day one we've always said that the scheme was flexible and that people with concerns could always air their worries with us and we would try to either explain things thoroughly or, as has happened in many cases, amend the plans.

"The consultation process has been hugely successful and I'm sure the vast majority of people who had concerns, will now whole-heartedly support the scheme," he added.

To keep interested parties fully informed, a pamphlet is to be distributed to every household in the affected areas. This will explain the changes and invite them to two final exhibitions.

The exhibitions will both be held at Leigh College, Marshall Street on Monday, December 8 and again on the 15th. On these two dates members of the public will be able to compare the old model with the new as well as see a computerised visual of the site.

The December 8 exhibition is between 6.30-9pm with the 15th being held between 3 and 7.30pm.
